DESCRIPTION:
APW - Ball Hamilton, Official B of LE Standard (Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers), 17J, Grade 999B, 18S, gold-filled OF case, white enamel SS dial with B of LE logo, pierced Ball style hour and minute hands, SW-LS, sunburst pattern nickel damascene, s#118382. This example notably has a damascene pattern which is substantially rare among 17 jewel Ball Hamilton production. While this sunburst damascene pattern is the norm for 21 jewel and 23 jewel 18 size Ball Hamilton movements, we have only seen a very small handful of Ball Hamilton 17 jewel examples with the sunburst damascene and all have been within a run of 50 serial numbers between 118351 and 118400. Of these, this is the first example with Brotherhood marking we have encountered as the couple others we've seen have had "Official RR Standard" marking instead.
CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, mainspring and balance staff seem likely broken, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, scattered small fine to micro-fine scratches, some bits of oxide to regulator; nearly flawless dial with few small fine to micro-fine scratches; fine hands, hour was presumably originally plum colored but is now with full finish loss, minute is plum colored, seconds-hand is a blue colored replacement; case shows little wear, some abrasions to band at 1:30 and also to adjacent perimeter of rear, no dents or dings, engine turning detail with mild reduction at shoulder; bow pivots freely, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
